Towards an eco-mindful world

Our mission is to provide high quality eco-mindful beach, travel and lifestyle accessories that support keeping our oceans clean so that our marine life can thrive.

“Up to 40,000 pieces of plastic are estimated to float in every square kilometre of ocean. 800 species worldwide including 77 Australian species are impacted by marine debris. Over 75% of what is removed from our beaches is made of plastic” … Tangaroa Blue Foundation

It is estimated that 8 million tonnes of plastic enters the ocean every year. Many marine animals mistakenly ingest plastic believing it to be a food source. This can cause serious injury, suffocation, starvation and will often lead to their death.

This is why we are donating 10% of our profits to support the following Not-for-Profit organisations:

* The Oceania Project - protecting whales.

* Tangaroa Blue Foundation - removing and preventing marine garbage on the Great Barrier Reef

* Take3 (@take3forthesea) - cleaning up ocean & beach plastic

* Surfrider Foundation Australia

* Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre

* The Australian Marine Conservation Society

We are also currently considering being involved with the "1% for the Planet" initiative.

Our luxe towels achieve their sand-free quick-drying lightweight features by using polymer fibres. Most microfibre uses polymers originally from petrochemicals. One of our goals is to replace 100% of these with organic non-petrochemical sources and avoid crude oil sources.

Ultimately, we seek to replace any toxic and potentially hazardous chemical or process used in manufacturing with organic, natural and environmentally mindful ones.

When it is available, we will look at whether the new Sustainable Apparel Coalition’s Higg Index suite of tools can accurately measure and score our company’s and product’s sustainability performance for our products. We expect the Higg Index will allow us to implement meaningful improvements that protect the well-being of factory workers, local communities, and the environment.

Using the OCEONYX OB-1 BPA-free Bottle, you are helping to save approximately 720 single-use plastic water bottles from potentially polluting our oceans and landfill each year.

We are also testing and transitioning to more sustainable biodegradable packaging. In the meantime we encourage you to recycle any soft plastic wrapping via the RedCycle bins which are available at the front of most supermarket stores such as Coles or Woolworths in Australia.

Reducing our carbon emissions to zero

We do our best to absorb more carbon that we create and we are working on how to show this.

We use up to 40% recycled PET in the polyester that is used to make our towels and 100% recycled card. This reduces the energy and emissions required to make our product.

We minimise the carbon emissions produced in transporting our products throughout our supply chain.

We ship all of our products from our manufacturers to their warehouses using the most Green Freight solution available. This is achieved by our sustainable logistics team that analyses the carbon emissions of each freight option at the time of booking the freight and selecting the one with the least carbon emissions. It may be a bit more expensive but we absorb that cost for a better world.

Where we can, we prefer to use suppliers that are local to where the products are sold & suppliers who use renewable energy to manufacture goods or power their operations.

We use an e-commerce payment gateway that purchases carbon offsets to offset the carbon emissions expected to be created by your delivery.

Our offices use electricity supplied from 100% renewable energy sources, most of it being solar.

How we minimise waste & pollution

Our goal is to ultimately eliminate all waste or pollution in the entire supply chain of our products. This will require some serious effort. Currently we use/are/have:

Using clean Recycled PET (rPET) and cardboard saves energy and carbon emissions compared to making the same item from raw materials.

Our microfibre suppliers use clean recycled polyester in making our microfibre . The latest OCEONYX towels are being made using up to 40% recycled PET.  We are continuing to test increasing this amount whilst still maintaining our high quality. However, using it doesn’t solve the problem of plastic waste entering our environment via small microscopic plastic fibres breaking off during washing. Recognising this we have included a free special laundry washbag with your quick-dry towel to filter out microwaste of this size from entering our waterways & oceans when you wash it.

Our cardboard inserts are printed on 100% recycled cardboard.

Our new towels are being made using 40% recycled PET. However, using it doesn’t solve the problem of plastic waste entering our environment via small microscopic plastic fibres breaking off during washing. Researchers report that synthetic fabrics create up to 700,000 tiny particles (>50µm) per wash. And scientists found that the ocean's plankton is eating it working itself up the food chain to fish, whales & people. Recognising this we have included a free special laundry washbag with your microfibre towel to filter out microwaste from entering our waterways & oceans when you wash it. Just occassionally grab the accumulated waste fibres from the inside corner of the wash bag & dispose of it in the household waste. You can also use the free wash bag to wash other washable synthetic fabrics as well.

We are planning our transition to all biodegradable packaging of our products. In the meantime we encourage you to recycle any soft plastic wrapping via the RedCycle bins which are available at the front of most supermarket stores such as Coles or Woolworths in Australia.

Our manufacturers use quality Italian inks that are eco-friendly and they never use chemicals that are listed on our Restricted Substance List.
